Rainy Laundry Day in Chicago ~ September 21, 2016

After almost two weeks away, it was time to do a little laundry. Our apartment building had a terrific laundry room down on the second floor, so we decided to take advantage of a somewhat rainy day and wash clothes. Not a terribly interesting thing to do ... but necessary all the same.
While I waited for the clothes to finish washing and drying, Jeff walked back to North Broadway to get transit passes for the week.

We played some backgammon ... before the trip I found a really great little "travel" set that fit easily into our backpack to replace the large set that my brother Jim had given us many years ago and that we usually hauled around on our journeys. Given our decision to go the "carry on bags" route, we couldn't bring the big set. We'll make some modifications to the set (it really needs to be varnished, and we'd like to find nicer discs and dice), but it functioned very well for our trip. It's a game that we generally only play while we are "on vacation" and something that we truly enjoy.
We listened to the Yankees (streamed the radio broadcast on our iPhone) and had a nice dinner, opting to stay in because of the rain. Our plan for Thursday was to do an architectural boat tour. We planned to go from the Navy Pier in order to experience going through the locks to get from the lake to the Chicago River.
A quiet day ... but sometimes that's exactly what you need after sightseeing overloads the senses.
