Cruising Alaska ~ Ketchikan ~ September 15, 2016

Today's port is Ketchikan!  It was a fairly nice day - in fact, the sun finally broke through about noon time - first time we had seen the sun for a while.  We did not have an excursion planned for the day, so after a leisurely breakfast, we left the ship for a walk-about town.  We went to the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center, run by the National Park Service, where we signed up for an got our "lifetime member" cards that give us free admission to all National Parks (by virtue of our advanced age).

It is a cute little "museum" where we sat and watched several videos due to the fact that my plantar fasciitis and my knees were making it difficult for me to walk around much.  Afterward, I sat in town and did some people-watching and reading on my Kindle while Jeff ventured up to see the salmon.  Departure time was 1:30, so we were back on the ship in plenty of time.  Not so all the passengers -- I overheard our "Cruise Director Dan the Man" say that 8 people from 3 parties missed the ship.

I guess it is something of a tradition for the cabin stewards to create these "towel animals" each night during one's cruise.  Somehow I lost the picture of the monkey that was hanging from the air exchange vent, but these cuties were waiting for us nightly when we returned from dinner.  One of the activities at some point during the cruise was a demonstration of how the stewards actually fashion these critters!
