Farewell Naujan-et-Postiac, Bordeaux, and Dear Friends ~ October 5, 2019
Farewell Naujan-et-Postiac, Bordeaux, and Dear Friends ~ October 5, 2019
With one last look at St. Peter's Church, just adjacent to our marvelous holiday cottage Les Vendangeurs at the most wonderful bed and breakfast known as Beau Sejour in the village of Najan-et-Postiac, we said a temporary (as it turned out) farewell to our host and hostess, Jon and Maureen Stratford. About five minutes into our drive to Bordeaux, I realized that I had forgotten my pocketbook (mon sac a main), and had to turn around to fetch it! Maureen and Jon, meanwhile, had tried chasing us to return it - to no avail! All's well that ends well, as the Bard once said, and within a short time we were back on our way. We dropped Peter and Betty Lou at La Gare St. Jean in Bordeaux and were on our way to the airport. Off we went -- the Bowles to Paris, and the Van Wagenens to Lyon!
Leaving Peter and Betty Lou here at the Gare St. Jean in Bordeaux, where they will get the TGV to Paris where they will be met by Toni and Michele Taret for a few days before beginning their cruise.
At the airport and through security with time to spare, Jeff and I enjoyed a lunch of a ham sandwich, chips, and wine (for me)/water (for Jeff).
It was easy to find the Rhonexpress which took us right to the Lyon city-center, where it was a very short walk to our hotel, the Radisson Blu. We checked in, had a bit of a nap, and then took a very long walk to get to a local bar/restaurant suggested by the gentleman who checked us in where we both enjoyed a hamburger that was quite delicious. We were the only tourists in the place, and spoke exclusively French all evening. A bit of an exhausting day, but interesting all the same.
Tomorrow, we board our ship, the Viking Buri and begin our adventure!
