Embarkation Day ~ October 6, 2019
This morning we had a delightful sleep followed by a delicious breakfast buffet at the Radisson Blu hotel. At about noon we got a taxi over to Quai Claude Bernard, where our Viking Ship, the Buri was located. All of the Viking river boats are named for Norse Gods. Buri is the primeval man in Norse mythology. He had neither father nor mother, but was created by a cow named Audhumla. As she licked the salt blocks of Ginnagagap ("gaping abyss", "yawning void"), the shape of a man — Buri — was formed. Buri had a son named Bor. Bor had three sons who were gods: Odin, Vili, and Ve. It is interesting to me that our last trip with Viking was on the Viking Vili - so we have now sailed on both father and son!
We were fortunate that when we arrived to check in, our stateroom was ready. Our luggage was delivered shortly thereafter, so we were able to unpack and then go up to get a light lunch.

The Radisson Blu is located in one of two skyscrapers in Lyon. We later learned that the Lyonnaise call the skyscrapers the pencil and the eraser -- ours was the pencil!
Here we are in the Aquavit Lounge enjoying the first of what will be many (I am sure) glasses of wine. Our "Chef du Bar", Kevin, is delightful and ever-so-helpful.
