A Long Postponed Visit to Italy
In 2019, when the world was sane, and COVID-19 was something that didn't exist, we purchased a package for a trip to Tuscany, to which we planned to add five days in Rome. Peter and Betty Lou planned to go with us, and we looked forward to another trip together. And then came COVID, the cancellation of our trip, and the eventual bankruptcy of the small travel agency located in Great Britain that had put the trip together. And that was the end of that!
In early February of 2020, I sat at the table at Aimee's house and found a trip called "Ireland by Rail," which we found intriguing, so I called the travel agency Great Value Vacations (located in Rockville Center, New York), and booked the package with an extension to the air travel to enable us to spend an additional eight days exploring several parts of England, riding some of their vintage railroads. Alas, that, too, was canceled due to the dreaded COVID.
As travel has opened up this year, and faced with a must-use voucher and complete travel before the end of 2022, I found the trip that is the subject of this series of Blog posts: "Affordable Venice, Florence, and Rome." The itinerary is in the title, and it includes air travel from JFK to Venice, returning Rome to JFK - both flights are non-stop. Also included are hotels - albeit on the fringes of each of the cities, but convenient to public transportation - and daily breakfast. The rest is up to us to figure out.
