The Trip Begins: Boston to Chama ~ September 27, 2023
After a lovely four days visiting with first one daughter (Aimee) and then the other (Bethany), we rose at the crack of dawn (dragging Bethany out of bed) to head to Logan Airport for our 6:00 a.m. flight from Boston to Dallas. Traffic was light, and we breezed through security (thanks in part to TSA Precheck) and headed to our gate. Jeff grabbed a bagel, and I worked hard to keep my eyes open until our flight was called. We decided to do carry-ons only, which also made the process seamless. We were fortunate to have a less-than-full plane, so there was no one seated in the middle seat, making for a much more comfortable ride. We landed ahead of schedule and made our way to our connecting flight, settling in for a moment before hearing the announcement that our gate had been changed to another terminal. We hustled to the new gate, dragging the aforementioned carry-ons. I was grumbling all the way, but we made it with a few moments to spare.
The flight from Dallas to Santa Fe was relatively short, and we arrived in Santa Fe at just about noon. We sat in the warm sun as we waited for Enterprise to pick us up and ferry us to their location in downtown Santa Fe. Unlike two years ago when we were given the only vehicle they had - a Dodge Durango ginormous SUV - we got a small compact car and were on our way to Chama. We arrived just minutes after 3 p.m. Central time (5 p.m. Eastern), unloaded the car, and fell into bed for a lovely nap.
The Little Rock House is a favorite of all of the VRBO/Airbnb places we have rented over the years. Two other favorites were Beau Sejour in Naujan-et-Postiac, France (the Bordeaux region), and the "Chic St. Germain" apartment we rented in April of this year for our week in Paris.

| Love the outdoor space, complete with a propane fire pit and grill - full disclosure - we have never used the fire pit! |

| The new owners have installed a keyless entry, making check-in easy! |

We miss Faye, the original owner and visionary who created this little house. She and her husband gathered the rocks from a variety of riverbeds and designed this beautiful little home-away-from-home. She was a phenomenal innkeeper, leaving delicious baked goods and coming in to change sheets and towels every three days - always when we were out.
The new owners (two years or so now) are nice but truly don't provide much more than the house itself (and at a much higher price). However, we still love the place and will continue to come back as long as our stamina allows!
After our nap, we went into town for dinner at "Local" - a restaurant that opened during the pandemic and that we visited a couple of times two years ago.

Jeff had a Creamy Tuscan Chicken over Pasta dish, and we shared these "loaded nachos"
After dinner, we made a grocery run before heading back "home." Jeff eventually went back down to the rail yard to take some night photos. He made friends with the night watchman, who turned on some headlights and warned him about bears and bobcats that roam the area. I was asleep before he got back. |
