Lazy Days and Sundays ~ November 13, 2016
November 13, 2016
We woke up quite late Sunday morning, sleeping until 11:30 a.m.! Both of us are having difficulty adjusting to the time change, I think. Friday night, even though we went to sleep by 10 p.m. local time, we both woke at about 1 in the morning and could not get back to sleep for quite a while, so I guess our sleep in on Sunday was to be expected. Anyway, it was a lovely day, so we ventured into town in search of lunch (since we missed the included breakfast at the hotel. Given that it was Sunday, the city was very quiet -- everyone must have been at church. No shops were open.
We finally found Restaurante Beira-Mar, one of those recommended by Marina on Friday, and were escorted to a table on the terrace overlooking the water. We were seated next to a couple with a young baby and a young man who appeared to be the brother of the wife. They chattered away as they ate their meal. The baby was adorable, and only a bit fussy. But either Mom or Dad would take the baby and walk with her until she settled back down.
We ordered a bottle of water, and I had a delightful glass of white wine. Jeff ordered the Portuguese Steak, which appeared to be smothered in some sort of garlicky broth and topped with a slice of ham. I'm not sure that he loved it, but he ate it. I ordered a mixed grill of pork and steak shish-ke-bob. It was absolutely delicious. There were pieces of something akin to pancetta, some small sausages, along with chunks of pork tenderloin and beef tenderloin. Again, the meal was incredibly cheap - about 30 euros for the two of us. We both were so full that we did not have much for dinner -- shared a pizza in the hotel restaurant.
Another lovely, sunny day in Angra do Heroismo! The climate here is quite amazing -- a balmy range of between 60 and 78 degrees year round. It is rather humid - as my hair can attest - but this time of year it is not unbearably humid.
I was glad I took this shot the night before the "super moon" as it was very cloudy on those days following, so this is as close as I got to a shot of the super moon.
