 A New Adventure!  Switzerland to Paris ~ April 2 - April 23, 2023


The wanderlust calls, and we must obey!  Mark Twain said it well, "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do.  So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."  And so, we're off again.  

We fly from Boston to Charles de Gaulle in Paris on Icelandair's version of first class.  We stop in Reykjavik, and when we land, we'll go no further than the Sheraton Paris Airport Hotel right there in Terminal 2.  We will spend the night and then make our way to the Train de Grande Vitesse (the TGV), which will whisk us away to Strasbourg, thence to Basel, and finally to Zurich, where our Viking cruise will begin.  It takes us back to Basel and Strasbourg, on to Speyer, Mainz, Koblenz, Cochem, Bernkastel, and Trier in Germany, and ends in Paris.  We have rented an apartment in St. Germaine de Pres for an additional week, during which we intend to live like the locals and visit tiny hidden places described in this lovely little book that Betty Lou gave me back when we took our trip together back in 2011.


So, even though we are three and a half weeks out from this next adventure, I wanted to start this account of our next travel adventure.  So many new experiences to look forward to!

The Coast Starlight October 2-3, 2018 Wednesday, October 2, 2018 We were up early to catch our Uber ride from our airport hotel to Union Station in downtown LA.  Rosey, our driver, did a great job weaving us in and out of traffic (although Jeff thought she was driving "too fast"), getting us to Union Station in plenty of time for our 10:10 departure.  We made our way to the Metropolitan Lounge and checked in.  Soon after, it was time for boarding.  Our journey on the Coast Starlight will take us 1,377 miles in just about 35 hours (provided we are on time and not delayed). April 15, 2018 ~ An Unprogrammed Day in Prague! Again the sun shone brightly today, although there were some high clouds that wafted in and out.  Still, a very warm and wonderful day for strolling back through the city.  The hotel breakfast is a full European-style breakfast:  eggs, any way you wish are yours for the asking; a full buffet complete with a variety of cheeses, scrambled eggs, grilled tomatoes, beans in tomato sauce, bacon, several types of sausage, potatoes, several types of ham, a multitude of bread and rolls, cucumbers, mushrooms, tomatoes, juice, all kinds of fruit, yogurt, all kinds of pastries, and, of course coffee or tea.  This morning we had time to linger and chat with a couple from Agawam that we met on the ship.  Their daughter and grandson had come to Prague to meet them and celebrate their 50th anniversary.
