Rocky Mountain High
An Overview of Our Fall Excursion
September 24 - October 16, 2018

Our fall adventure is to enjoy the Rocky Mountains both in the United States as well as more extensively in Canada. We begin our journey by flying to Chicago with great friends, Peter and Betty Lou Bowles. We'll take in some sights, probably do an architectural boat tour, hear some jazz, and Jeff and I may even take in a ball game at Wrigley Field. And then we board the California Zephyr which will take us through the Rockies and into San Francisco. We'll spend two nights on the train during this leg of the journey.
Riding some cable cars, strolling across the Golden Gate Bridge, relaxing on Fisherman's Wharf -- no matter what we decide to do, we will enjoy a couple of days in the city in which Tony Bennett left his heart! Then on to Los Angeles for a brief (no sightseeing) stop before we board the Coast Starlight, which will take us along the coast, through the Cascade Mountains, and into Seattle!
Stopping in Seattle for two nights, we'll visit Pike's Market, the Space Needle, and I know that I want to visit the Chihully exhibit. Then we'll be off again on the Amtrak Cascades train to Vancouver where we will stay for three nights.
I look forward to perhaps taking the ferry over to Victoria Island, visiting Stanley Park (which is located across the street from our condo), going to Granville Island, and popping into Gastown. Then, we rent a car for the remainder of our trip. We may drive up to Whistler and then on to Kamloops where we will spend the night. We'll take a leisurely drive from Kamloops to Jasper, stopping along the way to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. We spend three nights in Jasper and will use this time to see glaciers, mountains, ice fields, and perhaps do a tram ride. We continue our exploration of the Canadian Rockies as we move to Banff for three nights, visiting Lake Louise - among other explorations.
From there we travel to Calgary Airport, from which we will fly home. This trip truly will live up to the title of my Blog, since we will be using planes, trains, boats, and automobiles. Who knows, maybe we'll rent bicycles while on Victoria Island!
I look forward to sharing our experiences.
I am looking forward to following your adventures!
